Defending NCAA Champion Florida Gymnasts No. 2 on 2016 Preseason Poll

10th consecutive season Gators open among nation's top four
GAINESVILLE, Florida – The University of Florida gymnastics team starts the 2016 season No. 2 on the national preseason poll, released today by The Road to Nationals site.
Florida has appeared among the preseason top four teams each of the last 10 years (2007: 3rd; 2008: 2nd; 2009: 3rd; 2010: 4th; 2011: 3rd; 2012: 3rd, 2013: 3rd; 2014: 1st, 2015: 1st).
Last season, the Gators claimed their third consecutive NCAA Championship, edging Utah by 0.05 – equaling the smallest winning margin in the meet's 34-year history.
The preseason top four also finished among the top four in the 2015 NCAA Super Six team final. Oklahoma leads the 2016 preseason poll, with Alabama and Utah holding the No. 3 and No. 4 spots, respectively. Joining Florida and Alabama in the preseason top 10 are three other Southeastern Conference programs – No. 5 LSU, No. 9 Georgia and No. 10 Auburn.
Florida faces eight opponents in the 2016 poll, including five in the preseason top 10. Four of Florida's home dates feature an opponent among the preseason top 25 – No. 3 Alabama on Jan. 29, No. 5 LSU on Feb. 26, No. 6 UCLA on Jan. 15 and No. 13 Arkansas for the Feb. 12 Gators Link to Pink meet.
In 2015, the Gator gymnastics team claimed their third straight NCAA Championship and also won the NCAA Regional team title. Five Gator All-Americans return this season, including three-time NCAA champion senior Bridget Sloan (2013 all-around & balance beam; 2014 uneven bars). Also returning are All-Americans Kennedy Baker, Claire Boyce, Bridgette Caquatto and Alex McMurtry.
