GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Two Gators received Southeastern Conference honors this week. For the second consecutive week, Florida's Bridget Sloan claims the SEC Gymnast of the Week and Alicia Boren was named SEC Freshman of the week, the league office announced Tuesday.
It is the ninth such honor for Sloan as she was picked up five SEC Gymnast of the Week honors as a sophomore and twice as a freshman. As a junior, she did receive the first and final SEC Specialist of the Week honors, but didn't compete as an all-arounder in 2015 regular season action due to a sprained ankle suffered in the season opener. This is Boren's first SEC honor
Sloan's Performance:
When Florida and UCLA met Friday for the nation's top dual meet of last weekend, Sloan used the leading total of 2016 to claim her second consecutive all-around win. It was the 20th win of her career, moving her into a list of five Gators with five or more all-around titles.
Sloan also used the season's top uneven bars mark of 9.975 to claim her second straight title for the event.
She also tied for second versus UCLA in beam (9.925) and floor (9.90). Sloan is ranked in the nation's top 20 of each of the five events – No. T-1 all-around (39.575 average), No. T-1 bars (9.925), No. T-5 (9.888), No. T-11 floor (9.90) and No. T-16 vault (9.863).
Boren's Performance
Boren made her all-around debut Friday against UCLA. She shared second in the all-around at 39.575 with teammate Kennedy Baker. Boren's total equaled the highest ever for a Gator making her first all-around appearance.
She tied for second versus UCLA on floor (9.90) and shared third in vault (9.90) and bars (9.90).
Boren is ranked in the nation's top 25 for four events – No. T-1 all-around (39.575 average), No. T-3 bars (9.90), No. T7 beam (9.887) and No. 22 floor (9.875)
