Redshirt junior linebacker
Jeremi Powell, plagued by injuries during his UF career, will not return to Gators.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Gators linebacker
Jeremi Powell will not return to the football team for his final season of eligibility.
Powell left the team prior to the Citrus Bowl with an eye toward a future outside of the game. Often injured during his career at Florida, Powell played in 25 games and registered 21 tackles. He is expected to graduate in May.
Powell played in 10 games this season and finished with a career-high 11 tackles. Primarily a special teams player during his career, Powell started two games in 2015. In Powell's absence in the Citrus Bowl, reserve linebackers
Daniel McMillian and
Matt Rolin received extra reps.
McMillian finished with a career-high six tackles and Rolin contributed two.
Powell signed with the Gators in 2012 out of Pinellas Park High, where he was named to the Class 7A All-State team with 15 sacks as a senior.
