GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida football team's season is over, which means several players underwent surgery this week to treat nagging injuries.
Freshman offensive lineman Martez Ivey, who missed the first two games of the season due to a shoulder injury, underwent surgery this week to repair the shoulder. Ivey played in 12 games and started the final eight. He will be a major centerpiece of Florida's offensive line next season. Martez Ivey Sophomore receiver Brandon Powell is another key member of the offense who underwent surgery this week. Powell had surgery on a foot injury that hobbled him late in the season. Powell played in all 14 games and started Friday's Citrus Bowl, but after catching 20 passes in the first seven games, Powell only had nine receptions in the final seven.
Three defensive players also underwent surgery this week: defensive end Jordan Sherit (knee), defensive tackle Joey Ivie (sports hernia) and cornerback Quincy Wilson (sports hernia).
All three played in the Citrus Bowl. Ivie missed the most time during the regular season, sitting out four games. Sherit played 13 games and started three, finishing the season with 25 tackles and 1.5 sacks.
Meanwhile, Wilson played in every game and started nine, recording 29 tackles and two interceptions during his sophomore season. Wilson and fellow sophomore Jalen Tabor give the Gators one of the top returning defensive back tandems in the country next season.
Finally, walk-on kicker Neil MacInnes underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee. MacInnes joined the team midseason after walk-on kicker Jorge Powell suffered a season-ending knee injury at LSU.
MacInnes made 2 of 3 extra-point attempts, including one in the Citrus Bowl when he was forced into emergency duty after kicker Austin Hardin suffered an ankle injury at Thursday's walk-through.
