Gators Put Up a Fight in Main Draw of ITA Regional Championships

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The Florida men's tennis team rolled through their competition at the ITA Regional Championships Presented by Oracle, where the Gators competed in both doubles and singles matches on Friday. The tournament is hosted by Florida State University and is played at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.

Every member of the Gators men's tennis team is competing at the tournament, with the exception of freshman David Sarkissov. Elliott Orkin and Johannes Ingildsen received high seeds in the singles competition (2nd and 13th, respectively), while three doubles teams received high seeds as well -- No. 5 Maxx Lipman/Chase Perez-Blanco, No. 6 Ingildsen/Alfredo Perez, and No. 9 Orkin/McClain Kessler.

While the Gators took home some tough wins in the first rounds, freshman Johannes Ingildsen was upset by Georgia's Jan Zielinski in the Round of 64 in three sets. Ingildsen was seeded 13th in the singles competition.

Competition will resume Saturday with the first round of the Singles Consolation at 8:30 a.m., followed by the Main Draw Singles Round of 32, the second round of the Singles Consolation, the Main Draw Singles Round of 16, and finally the Main Draw Doubles Round of 16.

Format & Scoring

No-ad scoring will be used in all ITA singles and doubles matches in the fall season.
In all 2016 ITA Regional Championships events a doubles match must consist of a minimum of an 8-game pro set (tiebreak at 7-all), with the semifinals and finals doubles matches consisting of two out of three sets, with a Match Tiebreak in lieu of the third set.
