Five Gators Earn SEC Honors

Florida place three on All-SEC First Team - Meggie Dougherty Howard, Savannah Jordan & Gabby Seiler. Kristen Cardano is on the All-SEC Second Team and Julia Lester is a SEC All-Freshman selection.
GAINESVILLE, Florida – Five Gators appear on Southeastern Conference teams announced today by the league office.
Florida placed three on the 2016 All-SEC first team – seniors Savannah Jordan and Meggie Dougherty Howard along with redshirt junior Gabby Seiler. Junior defender Kristen Cardano is an All-SEC second team selection. Julia Lester is part of the SEC All-Freshman team.
Here's a look at the season notes for Florida's 2016 All-SEC honorees:
First team:
Midfielder– Meggie Dougherty Howard: All-SEC first team…Second consecutive All-SEC honor, as a second-team selection in 2015…Started every match at defensive midfield…Second among Gators with six goals and 19 points – both collegiate highs…Scored golden goal in 103rd minute at Kentucky…Played the entirety of 11 matches…Part of U.S. U-23 team in Nordic Tournament in England, starting first and final matches.
Forward – Savannah Jordan: All-SEC first team for fourth consecutive year – only other Gator to earn four consecutive All-SEC first-team honors is Gator Great Abby Wambach…Second in SEC with 34 points and 13 goals…In NCAA Division I statistics, tied for fifth in points and T13th in goals…SEC Offensive Player of the Week (Week 1, Week 8)…four double-goal matches (at No. 15 UCLA, at Oklahoma State, vs. Georgia, at Mississippi)…now has 21 multi-goal matches as a Gator…Top three on Florida's career goals (78, No. 2) and points (182, No. 3)…One of 24 in NCAA Division I history to score 78 or more goals and one of seven to do it since 2000…College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District IV selection and now advances to national ballot…Part of U.S. U-23 team in Nordic Tournament in England, scoring three goals in the tournament's three matches.
Defender – Gabby Seiler: All-SEC first team for second time (also in 2014 with Georgia)…Started every match – versatile player who can play midfield, center or outside back…First goal as a Gator came at Kentucky…Also recorded assists at No. 15 UCLA and UK…Played the entirety of eight matches…Helped the Gators turn in seventh shutouts in 2016…Invited to U.S. Under-23 National Team camp (Jan. 18-25, 2016).

SEC All-Freshman Team:
Defender – Julia Lester: Southeastern Conference All-Freshman team… Started 11 of the 16 matches appeared in, playing entirety of overtime match at No. 3 Stanford…Half-volley goal from 20-yards at Missouri was game-winner and earned SEC Freshman of Week honors…Scored first collegiate goal in 89th minute at LSU…Provided assists at No. 15 UCLA and at Oklahoma State.
In other awards announced Sunday, SEC champion South Carolina took three individual honors – Savannah McCaskill (Offensive Player of Year), Kaleigh Kurtz (Defensive Player of Year) and Shelley Smith (Coach of the Year). Missouri's Sarah Luebbert is the Freshman of the Year and Auburn's Casie Ramsier took SEC Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second-straight year.
The Gators now head to the SEC Tournament in Orange Beach, Ala. Florida tied for third in the final SEC standings and will be the No. 4 seed. The Gators face the same team they just met Thursday in Columbia, Mo., in Wednesday's SEC Tournament opening round action. The Florida versus Missouri match begins at 8:30 p.m. ET at the Orange Beach Sportsplex in Orange Beach, Ala.
The Gators are the defending SEC Tournament champion, claiming the program's 11th title with a 2-1 win over Texas A&M in the 2015 final.
