Gators Remain 15th in CFP Poll

Florida plays in its league-record 12th SEC Championship Game on Saturday.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- In case you haven't heard, Florida will take on Alabama in the SEC Championship Game on Saturday at 4 p.m. Beyond the fact that these two storied programs are meeting in the title game for an SEC-record ninth time, each team's postseason fate will be determined Saturday at the Georgia Dome.
The winner of the SEC Championship Game automatically qualifies for a spot in the Sugar Bowl, if that team is not selected to participate in the College Football Playoff.
In the brief two-year history of the College Football Playoff, the winner of the SEC Championship Game has been selected by the CFP Committee for a playoff spot. In that scenario, the next highest-ranked SEC team will be chosen to play in the Sugar Bowl.
After Tuesday night's rankings release, Florida sits at No. 15 in the CFP Poll. Alabama is ranked No. 1 while Auburn is the only remaining SEC team ranked ahead of the Gators at 14th.
Saturday's contest between Florida and Alabama has many implications on who gets into the College Football Playoff. For example, if UF defeats the No. 1 Crimson Tide, do the Gators deserve to be in the playoff? Or does that mean two teams from the Big Ten will get in?
We will all find out together on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. no matter how Saturday's game plays out.
Despite the unknown of Sunday's selections, we do know that Saturday's winner will be granted the opportunity to play in one of college football biggest bowl games on Jan. 2, the Sugar Bowl.
Of news and note, Florida has appeared in nine Sugar Bowls, which is tied for the third-most all time.
