FLUSHING, N.Y. – Florida junior Josie Kuhlman won her opening round singles and match and later teamed with senior Belinda Woolcock and advanced to the doubles quarterfinals of the 2016 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y., on Thursday.

Kuhlman, ranked No. 89 in the country, defeated Kentucky's No. 22-ranked Aldila Sutjiadi, 6-1, 1-6, 6-2, in the first round and advanced to the round of 16 where she will face North Carolina's eighth-seeded and 31st-ranked Jessie Aney on Friday at 9 a.m.

Kuhlman later paired with Woolcock and the duo earned a solid 6-3, 6-1 victory against Baylor's Elizabeth Profit and Blair Shankle in the round of 16. Their quarterfinal opponent will be Oklahoma State's Vladica Babic and Carla Tur Mari, who upset the event's No. 2-seeded team in straight sets.

Woolcock dropped a tough opening-round singles match to Vanderbilt's fifth-seeded and No. 19-ranked Astra Sharma, 7-5, 3-6, 6-2. She will continue action in the consolation draw on Friday at 1:15 p.m., when she plays Syracuse's Valeria Salazar.

About the Event (per the ITA)

As the only tournament on the ITA calendar to showcase elite players from every level of college tennis, the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships serves as the culmination of the fall season. Hosted by Columbia University, this prestigious event features a 32-player singles draw and a 20-team doubles draw for men and women.
Gaining automatic entry into the tournament are champions from the USTA/ITA Division I Regional Championships held across the country in October, winners of the ITA Oracle Cup, and the consolation champions, doubles finalists, men's singles quarterfinalists and women's singles semifinalists from the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's and Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships.
