
Diego Hidalgo and Gordon Watson are the new No. 1 doubles team in the nation

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The 22nd-ranked University of Florida men's tennis team has a doubles tandem at the top of the latest Oracle ITA Rankings. Seniors Diego Hidalgo and Gordon Watson are the new No. 1 doubles team in the nation after beginning the 2016 season 3-0.
The Orange and Blue duo have been on a run this year against ranked opponents, going 7-2 versus Top-50 tandems. Two of those wins have come against No. 1 and No. 2 ranked pairs. Hidalgo and Watson defeated then-No. 1-ranked Austin Smith and Ben Wagland of Georgia in the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championship this fall, 6-4, 6-3. More recently, the Gator tandem defeated the No. 2-ranked Texas Tech pairing of Hugo Dojas and Felipe Soares, 6-3 at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Austin, Texas.
The Gators will host the Furman Paladins on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at the Ring Tennis Complex.
