No. 10/3 Gators Open SEC Indoor Championships with Numerous Finals Qualifiers
Saturday, February 27, 2016 | Track and Field
Florida has 13 scoring chances left on the men's side and 12 on the women's side
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Florida track and field program put some points on the board and secured 13 finals spots for tomorrow's races on day one of the SEC Indoor Championships.
The Gators qualified at least one athlete for a final in all but one of the races they ran on Friday (Feb. 26). Florida also saw two runners advance to the men's 200 meters and 400 meters, as well as the women's mile finals.
Senior Arman Hall and freshman Ryan Clark were the only two Gators to qualify for multiple finals. Hall, also a member of Florida's 4x400-meter relay team, will run the 200 and 400 meters, while Clark is set up to score in the 60 and 200 meters on Saturday (Feb. 27) evening.
Two of the night's top performances came from junior hurdler Yanick Hart and sophomore Darrielle McQueen. Hart dashed into the 60-meter hurdles final with the No. 3-ranked time in program history, while McQueen demolished her personal record by over eight inches to post the No. 2-ranked long jump mark in school history.
Florida's men have 13 remaining scoring opportunities, and its women can score as many as 12 times on the second and final day of the meet.
Live streaming of Saturday's competition will be provided by SEC Network Plus via Watch ESPN from 3:55-8:30 p.m. ET. A highlight-based replay of the meet will be broadcast from 7-9 p.m. ET Sunday (Feb. 28) on ESPN.

HEARING OUT (COACH) HOLLOWAY
Head coach Mike Holloway on his overall takeaway from day one…
"We had some very, very good things happen today … but it's an athletics contest and bad things happen (too). Robin Reynolds going down in the 400 (meters), I feel bad for her. Robin has really bought in; she's really trusted us. It was just a freak thing. We'll have to get her back, get her evaluated, and get her healthy for nationals in a couple of weeks.
"On the men's and women's side, just about everything we went to the line in we qualified someone for the finals. Getting Najee (Glass) and (Arman) Gino (Hall) back and running times to get them to the national meet was big. Yanick Hart was big. Ryan Clark, not many freshmen come in here and make the final of the 60 (meters) and 200 (meters). Darrielle McQueen was monstrous today in the long jump. For a girl who jumped 19-9 in high school to jump 21-4.25, that was a wonderful performance.
"Overall, we still have some things we've got to work out. We've still got some people living in the past and not wanting to step up and do the things they've got to do. Again, I'm the head coach, and that's on me. Overall, I thought it was a good day."
On whether or not there are enough scoring opportunities left for the Gators to win titles this weekend…
"At the end of the day, it is what it is. I'll have to go back to the hotel and look at that. But you see in a Gator uniform tomorrow is going to get after it. Sometimes we have to deal with the hand we're dealt. Losing Robin, we lose a lot of points in the 400 and 200. That hurts. It really hurts our 4x400 relay. But that's why you have teammates. The rest of the girls have to pick her up, and we have to fight a little bit harder tomorrow."
On Kunle Fasasi and Shayla Sanders both missing finals by narrow margins…
"They'll both say they gave a great effort, and, most likely, they did. But they didn't execute. They came up a little bit short. I'm not going to dwell on that—the negatives. Shayla's got to come out tomorrow and have a great 60. She's the national leader, and needs to be the national leader. Kunle needs to be ready to run a great 4x400 leg tomorrow; his weekend isn't done. There's nothing we can do about the past. We can't rewind the clock. There's no do-overs in track and field."
On Eddie Garcia scoring in the 3,000 meters for the men…
"I thought that was big. Eddie is a grinder. He's that guy you want on your team, you want in your office space. He's a guy who shows up every day, does everything you ask him to do, and quietly shows up. I wasn't surprised at all he scored. Very happy for him, very happy for Coach (Paul) Spangler getting someone to score tonight."
On Lloydricia Cameron scoring in the shot put for the women…
"Lloydricia wanted to throw farther, but, as I explained to her and the team as a whole, we've got to stop deciding on meet day that we want to be great. Greatness is due to preparation on a daily basis. Practice doesn't make perfect, it makes permanent. My thing to her was, when we get outdoors let's start that from day one."
