During OFFseason, Gators are IN the Community

Community service is a priority for the Gator volleyball program.
The Gators may be in the volleyball OFFseason, but that just means more time and opportunity to get INto the Gainesville community.
And that's just what the Gators did last weekend.
First, head coach Mary Wise led Saturday's Weekly Wellness Walk at Santa Fe to help COACH Alachua County: Combat Obesity for Alachua County's Health. Started over three years ago by the Alachua County Medical Society and Alliance, the walk aims to address obesity and was created for everyone in the county as a free and ongoing program each January when people make New Year's Resolutions.
From 8-10 a.m. Saturday mornings, participants start with an aerobics warm up and tips from healthcare professionals before kicking off the Weekly Wellness Walk, which encourages participants to walk three miles, not only Saturday, but three additional times during the week with an ultimate goal of moving citizens of the county toward a healthier lifestyle one step at a time.

Meanwhile at The Swamp, a group of Gators, including Ann-Lorrayne Bzoch, Taelor Kellum, Allie Monserez & Carli Snyder, were "Stomping the Swamp for Autism" to benefit UF's Center for Autism and Related Disabilities. The eighth annual event includes an hour-long walk or run around Florida's Ben Hill Griffin Stadium to raise awareness for Autism, the fastest-growing developmental disability in the country.

Of note, Wise will additionally address men's basketball's Gator Tip Off Club Tuesday evening prior to the Gator hoops game against Ole Miss, with tip slated for 9 p.m. on ESPNU.
While success in the classroom and on the volleyball court are important for the Gators, so is giving back to the Gainesville community that supports the Florida volleyball program day in and day out all year. With spring semester classes, conditioning and individual workouts in full effect comes a great opportunity to stay connected and support the community before the start of the 2016 volleyball season.
