GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Senior
Brianna Morgan of the University of Florida women's tennis team was announced the winner of the 2016 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award for women's tennis,
Diverse: Issues in Higher Education announced this morning.
The Beverly Hills, Calif. native exemplifies good character on and off the court. Morgan was a member of the 2015 SEC Community Service Team and has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll all three years she played for the Orange and Blue.
The Arthur Ashe Jr. Sport Scholar Award honors undergraduate students of color who exemplify the standards set by tennis great Arthur Ashe Jr. To be included, students have to compete in an intercollegiate sports, maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 and be active on their campus and communities.
The Gator senior was one of 1,000 female and male students from across the United States that were nominated for the award.
The 36 individual sports winners will be listed in the April 21, 2016 edition of
Diverse. The three finalists for the for the overall 2016 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar
Award will be announced on March 17, 2016 with the top Male and Female Athlete of the Year being announced on April 7, 2016.
