GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 1-ranked Florida (38-3) softball team had its midweek clash with No. 8 Florida State (31-4) suspended in extra innings due to rain. This game will resume on Wednesday, May 4, prior to these two team's contest at FSU in Tallahassee.
Â
With runners on second and third, one out and
Aubree Munro at the plate in the bottom of the ninth, Wednesday's contest was suspended due to inclement weather.
Â
UF and FSU are currently entrenched in its sixth-ever extra inning matchup. UF currently holds a 3-2 advantage in such games.
Â
Coaches' CornerHead Coach Tim Walton:On the contest up to the rain delay in the ninth inning…"To this point, I thought our pitchers have really thrown a good game. They have done a good job of mixing up their pitches, speeds and locations really well. I think the oddness is going now in as the home team, on the road, in the ninth inning, two with runners on. It will just have to be a different set of preparation there when we try to finish this game."
Â
How'd We Get Here Prior to the ninth, Florida had its best chance to score in the sixth when UF loaded the bases with a pair of walks and a single, but was unable to score.
Â
Meanwhile, FSU had runners on first and second base in the first and third innings, but the Seminoles were unable to capitalize in either situation and were unable to generate any offense.
Â
Nicole DeWitt was the first runner on Wednesday night to reach third base, and she did so in the ninth inning before the game was suspended.
