ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The University of Florida men's golf team placed two Gators in the top five on its way to tying for third at the SEC Championship at Sea Island Golf Club on Sunday. It was the squad's highest finish since taking third in 2012. Freshmen Gordon Neale and Sam Horsfield placed fourth and tied for fifth, respectively.
Neale fired a 3-under 67, the lowest final-round score by two strokes, to jump 14 spots on the leaderboard and move into fourth place with a total of +1 (211). Horsfield joined Neale as one of only five SEC golfers to shoot under par in Round 3, carding a -1 (69) to tie for fifth at +2 (212) and pick up his eighth top-five finish of the year. This marks the second-straight tournament that UF's freshmen duo turned in a pair of top-five performances.
Gator sophomore Alejandro Tosti tied for 13th after posting a 3-over 73 to total +7 (217). Georgia's Lee McCoy claimed the individual title with a score of 3-under 207.
The squads battled wind at the Seaside Course again in the final round, with every team shooting over par for the second-straight day. Georgia won the team title with a total of +13 (853), while Texas A&M earned runner-up honors at +16 (856).

On the team's play:
"Overall, I'm really, really happy with the week. The guys gave it their best, and sometimes you just don't have your 'A' game. We didn't have ours this week. To win at the highest level, which is the SEC, you have to play your best, and we just didn't have our absolute best golf. We had a lot of good golf, but not our absolute best. With some work over the next month, we'll be ready for Regionals and a good run at Nationals."
On Gordon Neale:
"As soon as Gordon got 100 percent of his strength back, we've seen the type of player he is. His confidence, toughness, willingness to learn, course management and decision-making on the golf course are so impressive. He showed how big-time of a player he can be and how bright his future is today. We're very, very lucky to have him and are so glad he's a Gator."
