Gators Cap Regular Season with Dominating Win Over Vols

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The No. 13 University of Florida men's tennis team sent seniors Diego Hidalgo and Gordon Watson out in style on Sunday afternoon with a 6-1 win over the Tennessee Volunteers on Senior Day. Sunday's match was played inside the Ring Tennis Complex and finalized a 10-1 record at home this season.
In doubles action, juniors Maxx Lipman and Elliott Orkin picked up a 6-3 win over UT's Jack Heslin and Igor Smelyanski. No. 1-ranked Hidalgo and Watson sealed the doubles point with a 6-3 final over Tennessee's No. 22 Jack Heslin and Igor Smelyanski.The Gators are now 12-4 when clinching the doubles point.
In singles play, Lipman earned his second SEC win on the season with 7-6(2), 6-2 scores over UT's Heslin in straight-sets. Watson was next off the court with straight-set 6-4, 6-4 decision against Tennessee's Schipanski on court five. Orkin took down Tennessee's Stodder to clinch the match 7-6(2), 6-4 on court three.
The match win was the Gators' 10th SEC win of the season. The mark is the first time Florida has achieved 10 wins in conference play since the 2004-2005 season.
The Florida men return to action at the 2016 SEC Championships. This year's tournament will be hosted by the University of South Carolina at the Carolina Tennis Center in Columbia, S.C.

"We bounced back every time we needed to in the match. Whether it was doubles or singles, or even when we got down a little, our guys responded and competed well.
I've got to give a lot of credit to Tennessee. They really came in here and fought. For a team that's taken some close losses this season, they didn't look the part. They were a team that stuck together and continued to compete throughout the match while showing a lot of heart."
