GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 1-ranked University of Florida women's tennis team was well represented on Wednesday afternoon in the Southeastern Conference's announcement of the All-SEC teams. Head Coach Roland Thornqvist and five Florida Gators garnered conference honors.
Head Coach Roland Thornqvist was named the SEC Coach of the Year for the fifth time in his 16 years with the Florida Gators. Florida finished the season on a 16-match winning streak, where the Gators won the 2016 SEC Regular Season Championship outright and the 2016 SEC Tournament. The titles are the program's 29th and 20th, respectively. Florida has more combined titles than any other school in the SEC, men's or women's.
For the second consecutive season, sophomore Brooke Austin garnered the SEC Player of the Year honor. Austin becomes just the third player to be awarded back-to-back Player of the Year honors, former Gator All-American Lauren Embree is one of the three.
Last season, Austin became the first player to be named both the Player and Freshman of the Year in the same season. The Indianapolis, Ind. native is currently ranked No. 3 in singles with a 14-2 in dual match record and a 9-1 mark in SEC play. The Gator is also ranked No. 3 in doubles with Kourtney Keegan. The duo is 19-4 in dual match play with a 13-3 record in SEC competition.
Austin and Gator junior Belinda Woolcock were named to the First Team All-SEC list. The honor is Austin's second of her career and Woolcock's first. Playing at No. 2 singles all season, Woolcock has amassed an 11-3 dual match record, going 7-2 in conference play. The Melbourne, Australia is currently ranked No. 11 in singles and No. 43 in doubles with partner Josie Kuhlman.
Anna Danilina, Kourtney Keegan and Brianna Morgan were each named to the Second Team All-SEC list. Danilina has been tremendous in SEC play with a 13-0 singles record to contribute to a 19-1 dual match record at the four, five and six positions. Along with Morgan, the Gator tandem is 11-1 in SEC doubles play with a 15-2 dual match record. In the latest rankings, the pair is at No. 78.
Keegan has put together her best showing in the Orange and Blue with a 13-4 dual match record in singles play and a 9-2 nod in conference play. Keegan and Austin are now ranked No. 3 in the nation with 12 wins over ITA ranked opponents this season. The Gator junior has continued to climb the rankings this season, the Roswell, Ga. native sits at No. 40 in this week's rankings.
Senior Morgan continues to win awards in her senior year with the Gators. Morgan was named to the SEC All-Tournament Team and Tournament MVP on Sunday, while also garnering the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sportsmanship Award for women's tennis earlier this season. In just ten days, Morgan clinched two decisive matches against the Georgia Bulldogs that resulted in the Gators bringing home an SEC Regular Season title and an SEC Tournament title. The Beverly Hills, Calif. native has a singles dual match record of 10-2 with a 6-1 record in conference play. Along with Danilina, the pairing found their stride in SEC play going a remarkable 11-1 against SEC foes.
With a 16-0 record against SEC opponents this season, Florida has grabbed six conference honors, the most of any program in the SEC. UF's NCAA First Round opponent will be announced next Tuesday when the NCAA Selection Show is streamed live on NCAA.com at 5 p.m. ET.
