Seven Gators Named to NFCA All-Southeast Region Teams

UF’s seven All-Region honorees is the most Florida has had in a single season in school history.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Seven members of the University of Florida softball team earned NFCA All-Southeast Region recognition, announced Thursday by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. The Gators' All-Region selections are: Aleshia Ocasio, Delanie Gourley, Aubree Munro, Amanda Lorenz, Kayli Kvistad (First Team); Kelly Barnhill and Nicole DeWitt (Third Team).
Florida was one of five programs to have seven student-athletes honored. In addition, UF's seven All-Region honorees is the most Florida has had in a single season in school history.
Lorenz and Barnhill, became the fourth and fifth Gator freshmen since 2012 to earn All-Region honors (also: Lauren Haeger, Kelsey Stewart, Ocasio). Ocasio garnered her second straight All-Region selection after she was named to the First Team in 2015, while Gourley, Munro, Kvistad and DeWitt garnered their first All-Region accolades.
Florida now has tallied 51 All-Southeast Region selections by 25 players during Head Coach Tim Walton's 11 seasons and 59 All-Region accolades in school history. The Gators' seven All-Region selections are eligible for All-America honors, which will be announced on Wednesday, June 1.
Below is a glimpse at the notable achievements of each of Florida's All-Southeast Region honorees:
Amanda Lorenz
First Team All-Southeast Region
- Ranks among SEC leaders in hitting (eighth, .400), hits (T-6th, 66), runs scored (T-12th, 53), doubles (T-7th, 14), walks (fourth, 46) and on-base percentage (sixth, .530)
- Tied for the second-most hits (29) in SEC play and is tied for 10th in batting with a .377 mark
- Has started and hit second, third, fourth or fifth in every game this season for the Gators
- Hasn't committed an error in 47 chances in leftfield this season
- Currently ranks fifth in runs scored (53), fifth in hits (66), tied for second in doubles (14) and first in walks (46) in Florida's freshman record book
- Honors:
- Freshman of the Year Top 10 Finalist
- SEC Freshman of the Year
- First Team All-SEC
- SEC All-Freshman Team
- Named SEC Freshman of the Week once (3/28)
Delanie Gourley
First Team All-Southeast Region
- Holds an 18-3 record with a team-high 206 strikeouts in 143.2 innings pitched
- Ranks among the conference's best in ERA (second, 0.73), victories (T-10th, 18), strikeouts (second, 206), saves (T-4th, 5) and opposing batting average (first, .139)
- Her ERA ranks second in the country and only behind her teammate, Aleshia Ocasio (0.70)
- Recorded her second no hitter of the season and third of her career against Mississippi State in late April
- Joined Hannah Rogers as the only Gators to throw three no hitters. In addition, she's one of four Gators (Hannah Rogers, 2013; Stacey Nelson, 2009, Beth Dieter, 2000) to throw two no hitters in one season
- Tossed four one-hitters this season
- Combined with freshman Kelly Barnhill for a Florida single-game record 18 strikeouts against FAMU on March 6
- Registered a career-high 16 strikeouts in Florida's final regular season series against Arkansas.

Aleshia Ocasio
First Team All-Southeast Region
- Holds a 20-1 record with a team-best 0.70 ERA in 130.0 innings pitched
- Ranks among the conference's best in ERA (first, 0.70), victories (sixth, 20), strikeouts (11th, 130), saves (T-1st, 6) and opposing batting average (fifth, .186)
- In addition, her ERA ranks first in the country
- Earned two wins and one save in 10 shutout innings at LSU and recorded a pair of wins in Florida's SEC opening series at Auburn
- Against Jacksonville on Feb. 17, she recorded the 16th no hitter in Florida history and the first since her teammate Delanie Gourley threw one in the 2014 NCAA Regional against Florida A&M (May, 16). A hit batter in the first and a walk in the fourth were the only base runners allowed.
- Her no-no was the first in a home opener in program history
- Honors:

Kayli Kvistad
First Team All-Southeast Region
- Ranks among the SEC leaders in hitting (11th, .396), slugging percentage (11th, .687), RBI (fifth, 60) and on-base percentage (eighth, .517)
- One of eight hitters who had an on base percentage above .500 in conference play and ranked third with 27 RBI during league games
- Has yet to play a defensive inning this season, as she has been Florida's DP throughout the entire season
- Recorded a five RBI performance in UF's series opener against Mississippi State
- During that contest, she recorded her third-career and second multi-home run game of the season
- With two outs in the 7th inning and the score tied in UF' series opener at No. 3 Auburn, she hit a go-ahead three-run home run to propel the Gators to victory
- Honors:
- First Team All-SEC
Aubree Munro
First Team All-Southeast Region
- Totaled the most defensive chances in the SEC this season (454) and has the most putouts as well (421)
- Recorded a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in SEC play
- Committed just one error in the last two seasons (934 chances)
- Flashed her defensive brilliance at Ole Miss. The Rebels entered that weekend as the SEC leader with 106 stolen bases with an 86% success rate. In game one of the series, Munro caught two Rebels trying to steal and picked off one Rebel baserunner all before the third inning. Ole Miss did not attempt a stolen base the remainder of the series.
- Ranks second in the conference with two runners picked off
- Caught five runners stealing this season but only eight opposing baserunners have attempted a stolen base against the Brea, Calif. native
- Having her best offensive season as a collegian, as she's hitting .279 (39-for-140) with three home runs, six doubles, one triple, 28 RBI and 20 runs scored
- In Florida's series-clinching win against Mississippi State, she hit her first-career grand slam to power UF past MSU, 6-3
- Honors:

Kelly Barnhill
Third Team All-Southeast Region
- Holds a 15-1 record with a 1.37 ERA with 164 strikeouts in 107.1 innings pitched
- Ranks among the conference's best in ERA (fifth, 1.37), victories (T-14th, 15), strikeouts (seventh, 164) and opposing batting average (second, .141)
- Her ERA is challenging Stephanie Brombacher's freshman record 1.40 ERA that she achieved in 2008
- Currently ranks tied for fourth in wins (15) and third in strikeouts (164) in Florida's freshman record book
- She recorded Florida's fourth no hitter of the season the first of her career in UF's regular season finale against Arkansas.
- She joined Lindsay Littlejohn (Feb. 19, 2006, Longwood) and Delanie Gourley (May 16, 2014, Florida A&M) as the only freshmen in program history to throw a no hitter.
- UF's rookie right-hander and Gator Great Stacey Nelson are the only two Gators to throw no hitters against the Razorbacks. Nelson no hit UA on April 26, 2009.
- Tied her and Delanie Gourley's school-record 18 strikeouts on March 16 against Winthrop. On Sunday, March 6, that duo combined for 18 strikeouts against FAMU. Gourley recorded a career-high 13 strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched, and Barnhill dealt five strikeouts to the only five Rattlers she faced.
- Holds the Florida individual-game record for strikeouts. That mark was previously held by her teammate, Aleshia Ocasio, and former Gator, Renise Landry, who each had 17. The freshman's performance marked the second time a Gator pitcher recorded 15+ strikeouts in a regulation game since Jenny Gladding had 15 against Nebraska on Feb. 21, 2004.

Nicole DeWitt
Third Team All-Southeast Region
- Ranks among the SEC leaders in hit by pitches (third, 19) and on-base percentage (seventh, .520)
- With the game scoreless in the ninth inning at LSU, she hit a three-run homer to give Florida a 3-0 lead in the Gators first extra-inning game of the season
- With UF trailing Auburn 4-3 in game two of its series last month, DeWitt launched a three-run homer to give Florida a 6-4 lead in the fourth inning
- Has started every game at second base, third base or in right field for Florida, except one
- Notched two walk-off hits this season with RBI singles against Va. Tech and Illinois State to earn Florida a pair of mercy-rule victories
