
Florida Tennis Teams to Host NCAA First and Second Rounds

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida men's and women's tennis team were both chosen as one of 16 hosts of their respective NCAA Championship first and second rounds, the NCAA Committee announced on Tuesday evening from Indianapolis.
The event will run from May 13 to 15 at UF's Linder Stadium at the Ring Tennis Complex.

"We are excited to begin play again and hosting another regional. We're in the middle of a physical week of training as part of our preparation to play in the heat and humidity next week. We look forward to welcoming two teams we haven't seen here before as well as South Carolina State who we have met in this tournament's first round five times prior. I hope we can continue to play with that same hunger and passion that made us successful un the toughest league in the country."

The Combined Site Schedule
- The Gator women will host two first round matches on Friday, May 13 and a second round contest on Saturday, May 14.
- The Gator men will play their first round matches on Saturday and the second round on Sunday, May 15.
- The winning team from each of the 16 regionals will advance to Tulsa, Oklahoma, for the NCAA Round of 16 and beyond.
- This season the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center plays host to the combined men's and women's tournament from the Round of 16 through the final.
- The women's Round of 16 begins on Thursday, May 19, while men's Round of 16 actions commences on Friday, May 20.
- The Gator women received the No. 2 seed in the 64-team draw.
- Florida (21-2) faces South Carolina State (8-10), the MEAC Champions for the sixth time in program history in its NCAA First Round Contest on Friday, May 13 at 2 p.m. ET.
- The other NCAA Women's First Round match played in Gainesville will be held on Friday beginning at 11 a.m. ET and features No. 27 Syracuse (14-8), versus Georgia State (15-5), the Sun Belt Conference Champions
- UF has been selected to host first and second round matches every year since the NCAA Women's Championships expanded its field to 64 teams in 1999.
- The Gators have participated in 34 of the 35 NCAA Championships, missing only the 1986 event.
- The Gators won six NCAA team titles: 1992, 1996, 1998, 2003, 2011 and 2012.
- UF has advanced to at least the NCAA semifinals 23 times in the last 28 years.
- Florida play 16 of its 23 matches this season against teams that made the NCAA Tournament field of 64 and posted a 14-2 record versus those clubs.
- The Florida women's team is one of 10 SEC schools in the 2016 field.
- Five SEC programs were selected to play host to the first and second rounds: Florida (No. 2), Georgia (No. 5 seed), Vanderbilt (No. 6), Auburn (No. 11), South Carolina (No. 13)
- Of the other 15 seeds, the Gators faced six of them during the regular season.

Men's First and Second Rounds in Gainesville at a Glance

- Florida (18-6) faces the University of North Florida (11-11) for the third time in program history in its NCAA First Round contest on Saturday, May 14 at 12 p.m. ET.
- The other NCAA Men's First Round match played in Gainesville will be held on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. and features the University of South Florida (20-8) versus St. John's (NY) University (14-5)
- UF has been selected to host first and second round matches 13 of the 17 years since the NCAA Men's Championships expanded its field to 64 teams in 1999 (did not host in 2001, 2006, 2007 and 2015).
- Gators head coach Bryan Shelton has led the team to its fourth NCAA berth in as many years under his tutelage.
- Florida has made the NCAA Men's Championships for 25 consecutive years, dating back to 1991.
- The Gator men have advanced to the NCAA semifinals twice, with its last semifinals appearance coming in 2005 when UF fell to eventual runner-up Baylor, 4-1, in College Station.
- Florida played 18 of its 24, going 10-6 in matches this season against teams that made the NCAA Tournament field of 64.
- The Florida men's team is one of seven SEC schools in the 2016 field.

- Tickets may be purchased in advance or on each day of the tournament.
- An ALL-SESSION Pass $10.00 for senior citizens, college students and children under 17.
- SINGLE DAY tickets for Friday and Saturday are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for senior citizens, college students and children under 17.
- SINGLE DAY tickets for Sunday are $3.00 for everyone.
- A Will Call window for the teams will also be located at the Ring Tennis Complex entrance.

Seating
- Gates will open for fans one hour prior to the start of the first competition each day.
- Please note that seating is on a first come, first served basis.
- No saving seats is permitted.
- The men's and women's NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships run May 25-May 30 in Tulsa, Okla.
- The announcement of the 64-player singles field and the 32-doubles draw will be held on Wednesday, May 4.
- The names of the men's and women's individuals selected will be posted to www.NCAA.com no later than 6 p.m. ET.
- The draws will be unveiled on Tuesday, May 24.
