GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida track and field program saw three student-athletes named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District 4 Women's Division I Track & Field/Cross Country Team, which was announced during last Thursday's (May 26) NCAA East Preliminary competition.
Florida seniors Kyra Jefferson and Robin Reynolds, as well as junior Taylor Tubbs earned the honors for their work both in the classroom and on the track.
Jefferson, a recreation, parks & tourism major, is a three-time national champion, five-time Southeastern Conference champion, and 10-time All-American sprinter. This season, the Detroit native claimed the SEC Outdoor title in the 100 meters. She also became the only woman in history to break 11.20 seconds in the 100 meters, 22.25 seconds in the outdoor 200 meters, and 51.51 seconds in the outdoor 400 meters as a collegian.
Reynolds, who recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in criminology, is a 13-time All-American, two-time national champion, and three-time SEC champion. The Miami, Fla. native is set to compete individually in the 400 meters and on UF's 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relay teams at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, which are less than two weeks away.
Earlier this year, Reynolds helped the Gators win their second consecutive 4x400 relay title at the SEC Outdoor Championships.
Tubbs, who graduated with a bachelor's degree in economics in just three years, is set to make her first individual NCAA Championships appearance. The Sebring, Fla. native qualified for the 5,000 meters final, becoming the first Gator to do so since Genevieve LaCaze (2009). Tubbs was also a 2014 USTFCCCA All-South Region and 2015 USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree as a member of UF's cross country team.
UF's three honorees will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-American Team Ballot, which will vote for its first-, second-, and third-team All-America honorees later this month.
All nominees for these accolades must have been at least a sophomore, carry at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average, and boast noteworthy academic and athletic achievements.
