Reynolds is only the fifth Gator in history to earn first-team Academic All-America Honors
AUSTIN, Texas – University of Florida track and field student-athletes Kyra Jefferson and Robin Reynolds were both named to the 2015-16 Division I Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Academic All-America Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Friday (June 24).
This marks the first time in history UF's women boast multiple Academic All-Americans in the same year.
Reynolds garnered a first-team accolade, the highest honor by a UF women's track member since pole vaulter Dara Altman earned a first-team laurel in 2005. The only other women in program history to nab first-team honors are Megan Westfall (2002), Beth Cranston (1998), and Ebony Robinson (1996).
In her senior season with the Gators, Reynolds earned indoor and outdoor All-America honors in the 400 meters and 4x400 relay, along with another outdoor All-America plaudit in the 4x100 relay. Those five All-America honors raised her career total to 16, the third-most in program history.
The Miami, Fla. native also graduated with 3.56 grade point averagea and a degree in criminolgy this past spring, and currently holds a 3.66 GPA in a post-graduate sports management program.
Jefferson picked up a second-team honor. The Detroit product collected indoor All-America honors in the 200 meters, 400 meters, and 4x400 relay, highlighted by her runner-up finish in the 200 at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Outdoors, Jefferson became the second Gator in history to win the 100 meters title at the SEC Championships.
Moreover, Jefferson became the first woman to break 11.20 seconds in the 100, 22.25 in the 200, and 51.51 in the 400 as a collegian. All the while, Jefferson posted a 3.42 GPA as a recreation, parks & tourism major.
Both Reynolds and Jefferson are preparing to run at the U.S. Olympic Trials—which will feature over 20 future, current, and former Gators—this July.
