GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida placed 94 student-athletes on the 2016 Southeastern Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll, announced Wednesday by league commissioner Greg Sankey.
The 2016 SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2015-16 summer, fall and spring terms.
A total of 19 from Florida's NCAA champion men's track & field team, along with 16 from the women's program, appear on the Academic Honor Roll. The SEC champion softball team placed eight on the list. Women's tennis, which swept the SEC regular-season and tournament titles, saw seven earn SEC Academic Honor Roll status. The SEC Tournament champion men's tennis team had four make the list. The baseball team placed 14 on the list, its highest total since 2008. The Gator lacrosse team, which swept the Big EAST regular season and tournament titles, was just off their all-time high with 16 on the list. Men's golf (4) and women's golf (6) each had multiple representative on the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
One turned in a 4.0 grade point average in the 2015-16 academic year – tennis sophomore Josie Kuhlman. She also earned a spot on the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District team in 2016.
To be recognized to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner or have participated on a varsity team for two years if non-scholarship; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
