Six Gators Advance to Open USATF Olympic Trials, Two Qualify for Semis in Jamaica

11 Gators will compete at the USATF Olympic Trials tomorrow
EUGENE, Ore. – Six of the eight current Gators and Gator alums who competed on the opening day of the United States Track and Field Olympic Trials advanced to their next qualifying rounds, with five of them coming from the men's and women's 400 meters.
Najee Glass (45.41) and Arman Hall (45.61), both of whom completed their final season for Florida this past June, posted the third- and fifth-fastest overall times, respectively, to win their heats and automatically advance to the semifinals. Gator Great Tony McQuay (45.95), a two-time world champion and 2012 Olympic 4x400 relay silver medalist, took second in his heat to nab an automatic semifinal berth as well.
Robin Reynolds, another Gator who exhausted her eligibility a mere three weeks ago, logged the eighth-fastest overall time (51.92) and took third in her heat to automatically advance. Ebony Eutsey ('14) was one of the four time qualifiers, clocking in at 52.45.
Rachel Longfors ('06) was the sixth and final Gator to advance. The six-time All-American finished 10th in the discus throw qualifying round to earn a spot in the 12-woman final on Saturday (July 2).
At the Jamaica Olympic Trials, Hugh Graham Jr. (400 meters) and Novlene Williams-Mills (400 meters) both advanced to the semifinals.

"It's a lot different than nationals. A lot more people. But it's a good atmosphere, positive vibes. Out there on the track you just have to learn how to block it all out and concentrate on your race. The energy they give is really great, so I just build on that."

"That's great. Going into my race, I saw Najee (Glass) and Arman (Hall) made it through, and that just gave me more motivation and got me really pumped up. When my race was timed to go, it was just like, 'Come on, Rob. They got it done so now it's your turn.' I just went out there and did just that."
