
Gators Shining in Summer Action

With summer in full swing, the Gators have dispersed across the country and around the world to hone their skills in amateur summer leagues.
Three UF players, Dalton Guthrie, Alex Faedo and Mike Rivera, accepted invitations to play with the Team USA Collegiate National Team on an overseas tour to Taiwan, Japan and Cuba.
Five Gators have joined teams in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League while two more are playing in the New York Collegiate Baseball League.
Four Florida players are in the upper Midwest playing in the Northwoods League, which started the second half of its season last week.
Christian Hicks (Florida League), Hunter Bowling (Valley Baseball League) and MacGregor Hines (Texas Collegiate League) are also in the midst of their summer ball seasons.
Dalton Guthrie has started seven of nine games and is batting .261 with five runs scored. Mike Rivera has started just five games while playing in seven total, and has one hit in 14 at bats with one run scored.
On the mound, Alex Faedo (2-0, 1.12 ERA) has started two games and totaled eight innings pitched with just one run allowed while striking out 12 batters.
Danny Reyes (stats) has played in five games for the Braves and has two hits, including a double, in 12 at bats with two runs scored. The Braves are 12-13-1 so far this summer.
Harwich Mariners
Jonathan India (stats) made his debut for the Mariners on Saturday and has three hits in two games. He's also drawn three walks and has two steals. His team is currently 16-8-2 and in first place in the East Division.
Falmouth Commodores
Brady Singer (stats) has been one of the stars of the Cape league thus far. He has started two games on the mound and pitched 11 innings without allowing a run and giving up just four hits.
Teammate Deacon Liput (stats) has made three appearances and has a .250 average (3-for-12) with a double and three RBI. The Commodores have a 16-10 record and sit in first place in the West Division.
Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox
JJ Schwarz (stats) has seen the most action thus far in the Cape league and has a .185 average (5-for-27) with five RBI and five walks. He has one home run, a three-run bomb that won the game for his squad on July 7. The Red Sox are 15-11 and are in second place in the East Division.
Blake Reese (stats) has been solid for his Kingfish team in 13 games. He has a .283 average (15-for-53) with five doubles, a triple and 11 RBI. He also had a straight steal of home in a game on June 30 (VIDEO) to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. The team has an 18-23 record.
Lakeshore Chinooks
Nick Horvath (stats) joined the Chinooks after the Gators season ended and has been used on the mound in relief. He's had four scoreless outings in five appearances and allowed six hits in 6.2 innings. The Chinooks are 17-24 on the summer.
Madison Mallards
Nelson Maldonado (stats) has stood out for the Mallards since he joined the team in July. In five games, he has a .368 average (7-for-19) with a double and two runs scored and two RBI.
On the mound, Michael Byrne (stats) has made three appearances with one start and given up four earned runs in 7.1 innings pitched. The Mallards are currently 26-15 and sit in second place in the South Division.
A pair of Gators have helped the Oilers to a 33-4 record and first place standing in the NY Collegiate Baseball League. Mark Koloszvary (stats) has played in 12 games, seeing action at catcher and DH, and has a .375 average (15-for-40) with five doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI. He has recorded a hit in 11 of the 12 games he's appeared with four multi-hit games.
Eddy Demurias (stats) has seen action in the field and on the mound for the Oilers. He's hitting .207 (6-for-29) with a double, triple and three RBI while drawing five walks. In two pitching appearances, he has allowed just one hit and no runs in five innings.
Christian Hicks (stats) is the lone Gators' player playing in the Sunshine state this summer and he earned a spot on the South Team for the 2016 Florida League All-Star Game. He's hitting .250 (6-for-24) with five RBI on the summer. His team is 11-13 on the summer.
MacGregor Hines (stats) is playing in the Lone Star state and has shown promise in five appearances on the mound. He's started two games and pitched 19 innings with just one run allowed, totaling 22 strikeouts with six walks. His Bombers team is 26-5 and in first place in the Texas Collegiate League.
Hunter Bowling (stats) has made just one appearance thus far, tossing a scoreless inning for the Cardinals with two strikeouts. His team is 15-14 so far this summer.
