Participant List | Team/Participant Information
After a brief hiatus for the University of Florida tennis teams, the 2016 season starts up this weekend as the Gators host the Gainesville Regional ITA Summer Circuit Tournament. The tournament will be held at the Ring Tennis Complex this Saturday and Sunday.
Four returning letterwinners and two newcomers will take to the courts this weekend. Jordan Belga, McClain Kessler, Joshua Wardell for the men and Peggy Porter for the women will return to the Ring Tennis Complex alongside men's freshmen Stephen Madonia from Sarasota, Fla. and David Sarkissov from Moscow, Russia.
Kessler, Wardell and Porter are returning for their second Gainesville Regional ITA Summer Circuit. Last year, Kessler faced his teammate and the eventual overall singles champion Elliott Orkin in the Lower-Half Semifinals, while Wardell teamed up with fellow Gator Chase Perez-Blanco to win the men's doubles competition.
The 2016 ITA Summer Circuit provides college tennis players, along with junior players and alumni, the opportunity to compete in organized events during the summer months. Any active ITA member can register for any ITA Summer Circuit Tournament.
The 2016 ITA Summer Circuit will feature 51 tournaments spread across 24 states this summer, up from 36 in 2015. The summer circuit will run for six weekends, beginning the last weekend in June and continuing through the last weekend in July. Players that advance out of the qualifying tournaments will head to Bloomington, Indiana, to take part in the ITA Summer Nationals, held Aug. 13-16 at Indiana University.
