RIO DE JANEIRO – Five different Gator stars competed in Olympic track and field action on Monday (Aug. 15), with three advancing in their respective events and Gator Great Genevieve LaCaze (Australia) setting a personal record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase final.
Triple jumpers Christian Taylor (USA) and Will Claye (USA), the defending Olympic gold and silver medalists, each advanced automatically. The two will square off in Tuesday's (Aug. 16) final, scheduled for 8:50 a.m. ET on NBC Sports Network.

LaCaze, one of the first two Aussies to qualify for the 3,000-meter steeplechase final since it became an Olympic event in 2008, finished ninth in this morning's final. She will run the 5,000 meters preliminary Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. ET on NBC Sports Network.

Track & Field
- Christian Taylor (USA), the defending Olympic gold medalist, only needed one jump to hit the automatic qualifying mark for Tuesday's final. The two-time world champion leapt 17.24 meters, the top mark by any qualifying jumper, on his lone attempt.
- Will Claye (USA), the defending Olympic silver medalist, surpassed the automatic qualifying mark on his third and final jump, which measured 17.05 meters. The 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials champion will also compete in Tuesday's final.
- Genevieve LaCaze (Australia) posted a ninth-place finish and ran a 2-second personal best of 9:21.21 in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase final.
- Kerron Clement (USA) breezed through the 400-meter hurdles preliminary, finishing third in his heat and securing an automatic berth for Tuesday night's semifinals. Clement will run again tomorrow night at 8:35 p.m. ET on NBC.
- Eddie Lovett (U.S. Virgin Islands) ran his 110-meter hurdles preliminary heat in 13.77 seconds, but he missed the last semifinal berth by 0.11 seconds.
