Three Gators Cap Olympics with Medals
Saturday, August 20, 2016 | Track and Field
Florida's six medals are a single-Olympiad program record, and this year is the first time in history the Gators won multiple gold medals
RIO DE JANEIRO – All three Gators Greats competing on the final day of Olympics track and field won medals for their respective countries, with Arman Hall and Tony McQuay claiming gold with Team USA, and Novlene Williams-Mills nabbing silver with Jamaica.
Just as they did in the qualifying round, Hall and McQuay ran the first two legs of the 4x400 relay for Team USA. The Americans clocked a time of 2:57.30 to take the gold medal.
McQuay also won a silver medal with Team USA's 4x400 relay at the 2012 Olympics, while this is the first Olympic medal for Hall.
Williams-Mills anchored Jamaica's 4x400 relay to a silver medal, marking the fourth consecutive Olympics she helped her nation medal in the event.
Williams-Mills and the Jamaicans previously won bronze in 2004, 2008, and 2012. However, the Russian team that finished ahead of them in 2008 was recently stripped of their medals for doping violations.
