GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gators opened preseason camp this afternoon, shortly after the first USA Today/Amway Coaches Poll of the season was released.
Florida opens the season ranked 25th, one of six Southeastern Conference schools in the preseason poll. It marks the first time Florida has been ranked in the preseason poll since 2013.
Defending national champion Alabama is No. 1, LSU is sixth, Tennessee is 10th, Ole Miss No. 12 and Georgia is No. 16.
Meanwhile, seven SEC coaches are on the 64-member Amway Board of Coaches, whose votes each week determine the rankings (Bret Bielema, Gus Malzahn, Dan Mullen, Kevin Sumlin, Nick Saban, Derek Mason and Kirby Smart).
Gators head coach Jim McElwain is scheduled to meet with the media after today's second practice (approximately 5:35 p.m.).
