UF won in dominant fashion Saturday against Kentucky.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Gators took care of business on Saturday in their Southeastern Conference opener against Kentucky, dominating from start to finish for a 45-7 victory.
The voters in the AP Top 25 were much more impressed than Week 1 when the Gators dropped out of the poll despite beating UMass. Florida re-entered the AP Top 25 on Sunday afternoon at No. 23.
Florida opened the season at No. 25, marking the first time since 2013 the Gators were ranked in the AP Top 25 preseason poll. However, a 24-7 win over UMass was not enough to keep Florida from dropping a spot and allowing Miami to sneak into the rankings at No. 25.
Here is a look at the latest poll.
Eight SEC teams are ranked with Florida and Arkansas new to this week's poll. Alabama is ranked No. 1, Florida State is second, followed by No. 3 Ohio State, No. 4 Michigan and No. 5 Clemson, which dropped three spots.
Florida's victory Saturday extended the Gators' winning streak against Kentucky to 30 games, the longest active streak in an FBS series.
"I thought we took a big step in coming together as a football team with a common goal,'' Florida head coach Jim McElwain said. "Great win for the Gators. A common-goal win."
