Ingildsen Clinches First Career Title at Southern Intercollegiate Championships

ATHENS, Ga. – Freshman Johannes Ingildsen finished strong for the Orange and Blue on Monday, capturing the Division II title at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships. Ingildsen's impressive debut closes out a busy weekend of competition for the Gators men's tennis team.
Although this was Ingildsen's first career tournament, the Denmark native went into the competition seeded first in the Division II draw. The expectation to perform didn't slow Ingildsen down, as he won each match in the tournament in just two sets. Assistant Coach Tanner Stump, Maxx Lipman, Elliott Orkin and Head Coach Bryan Shelton
The fifth-seeded duo of Elliott Orkin and Maxx Lipman fought their way to the finals of the Division I doubles competition, where they fell to Georgia Tech's Kay/Yun to take second place.
The impressive run from the Gators at the Southern Intercollegiate piggybacks a strong showing from three other teammates at the Bedford Cup in Tampa, Fla. Junior Jordan Belga took home his second singles title on Sunday, and freshman David Sarkissov took the singles title in the back draw, competing against fellow freshman Stephen Madonia in the finals.
Jordan Belga defeated South Florida's Peter Bertran 6-1, 6-2 to take the singles title in the "A" draw of the Bedford Cup.
Stephen Madonia defeated FAU's Felipe Frias and David Sarkissov defeated FAU's Remi Chancerel at the Bedford Cup, sending them both to the finals round of the "A" Consolation draw. Sarkissov defeated Madonia 7-5, 6-2 to take the title.
McClain Kessler beat 12th-seeded Max Tchoutakian (Baylor) 6-4, 0-6, 7-5 in the Division I Round of 32 at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships.
Chase Perez-Blanco and Johannes Ingildsen defeated the second-seeded duo of Babic/Kralijevic (Ole Miss) 6-3 to advance to the quarterfinals of the Division I doubles draw in Athens.
McClain Kessler and Joseph Guillin defeated Kennesaw State's Calvo/Slade 6-2 in the Division II Quarterfinals in Athens, advancing them to the Semifinals of their draw. This was Guillin's first collegiate competition.
Up next:
The Gators will head to Tulsa, Okla. to compete in the ITA All-American competition. The pre-qualifying round begins on Saturday, Oct. 1 and the final day of the main draw will be on Sunday, Oct. 9.
