Friday, January 20, 2017 | Men's Basketball
Bonner helped UF to two SEC titles before winning a pair of NBA titles in San Antonio.
Matt Bonner has been named to the 2017 class of Southeastern Conference Men's Basketball Legends, the SEC announced on Friday. On the heels of his retirement from pro basketball, the two-time SEC champion and UF Athletic Hall of Fame inductee will be honored at the SEC Tournament in Nashville this March.
Bonner was part of the 2000 and 2001 SEC-winning teams and helped the Gators reach their first national championship game in school history. He earned a wealth of individual acclaim, as well, as a two-time AP All-American and three-time All-SEC honoree. A standout in the classroom, Bonner was a three-time Academic All-American and a recipient of the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
A pair of NBA championships highlighted Bonner's 12-year NBA career, earning a ring with the San Antonio Spurs in 2007 and 2014.
Along with Bonner, the 2017 class includes George Linn (Alabama), Oliver Miller (Arkansas), Marquis Daniels (Auburn), Jimmy Pitts (Georgia), Keith Bogans (Kentucky), Tasmin Mitchell (LSU), Jason Harrison (Ole Miss), Dontae' Jones (Mississippi State), Jon Sundvold (Missouri), Bobby Cremins (South Carolina), Ron Slay (Tennessee), Acie Law IV (Texas A&M) and Barry Booker (Vanderbilt).
