Clayton Brown and Grant Holloway have combined for four times and marks ranked in the top five nationally this season, including three national leads
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Florida freshmen Clayton Brown and Grant Holloway both earned their second weekly Southeastern Conference honors Tuesday (Jan. 24), with Holloway nabbing Men's Co-Field Athlete of the Week and Brown collecting Men's Freshman of the Week.
Holloway made his collegiate long jump debut at the Hokie Invitational with three of the nation's top five marks last week, including an 8.05-meter (26 feet, 5 inches) leap that leads the country by 19 centimeters.
In addition to his performance in the field, Holloway won the 60 hurdles final in 7.77 seconds, tied for the fastest time nationally last week. It also would have tied the No. 3-ranked time in Division I this season, but Holloway's 7.63 from the season-opening meet at Clemson (Jan. 7) already leads all collegians. The Chesapeake, Va. native closed the weekend by running a leg on UF's 4x400 relay.
The massive opening mark also did the following for Holloway:
Brown, already the national leader in the high jump (2.25 meters / 7 feet, 4.5 inches), made his collegiate triple jump debut with three of the country's top 10 marks last week.
The St. Andrew, Jamaica native's top jump of 16.34 meters (53 feet, 7.5 inches) ranks fourth nationally, and was the second-best by anyone last week. Only Bates' top jump of 16.37 meters (53 feet, 8.5 inches) was farther.
For added perspective, Brown's huge triple jump opener made him:
The Gators, whose men lead Division I with seven times and marks ranked in the top five nationally, travel to Fayetteville, Ark. for this weekend's (Jan. 27-28) Razorback Invitational. Saturday's action will be televised by SEC Network from 2-5:30 p.m. ET.
