Florida Brings in No. 2 Recruiting Class for 2017-18
Monday, January 30, 2017 | Men's Tennis
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 11 Florida men's tennis team has the second-best recruiting class in the nation, Tennis Recruiting Network reported on Monday.
With eight first place votes, Florida received 460 points in the poll – one point behind California, and 27 points ahead of the third-place recruiting class, UCLA. Three non-conference opponents that the Gators will see this season have top 25 recruiting classes -- UCLA, Virginia, Ohio State, and fellow SEC opponent Vanderbilt earned the No. 23 spot on the list.
The Gators signed three top-level recruits in November – Blue Chip recruits Andy Andrade and Oliver Crawford and Portugal's Duarte Vale – to earn them the No. 2 recruiting class in college tennis.
Andy Andrade, a Blue Chip recruit from Bradenton, Fla., brings five ITF doubles titles (alongside fellow commit Duarte Vale) and a 20-5 ITF doubles record in 2016 to UF; he is ranked 22nd nationally, fifth in the southeast region and third in his class in Florida.. No. 19 Oliver Crawford is also a Blue Chip recruit, ranking top five in his class on TennisRecruiting.net, with an ITF ranking of 21 and a recent finalist at the Coffee Bowl Grade 1 ITF in San Jose, Costa Rica. Duarte Vale comes to the Gators from Portugal, where he is ranked No. 14 in the ITF rankings, and won the doubles competition with fellow commit, Andy Andrade, at the ITF Grade 1 Copa Barranquilla.
