Marcell Harris announced late Sunday that he will return to Florida for his senior season.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Gators received a dose of good news on Sunday evening.
Redshirt junior safety Marcell Harris announced via Twitter that he will be returning for his senior season. The deadline for underclassman to declare for the draft is Jan. 16.
Harris had his best season as a collegian in 2016, leading the team with 73 tackles, including four tackles-for-loss and one sack. He added two interceptions, one pass breakup, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
The Orlando, Fla., native stepped in as Florida's leader in the secondary after fifth-year senior safety Marcus Maye went down with a season-ending injury against South Carolina.
Duke Dawson and Nick Washington, along with Harris, will be veterans of DBU next season.
The return of these three key contributors will be key as UF's defense is losing underclassmen Alex Anzalone, Caleb Brantley, Jalen Tabor and Quincy Wilson. Left tackle David Sharpe is also foregoing his final year of eligibility to enter the draft.
