Allen Earns First SEC Player of the Week Recognition
Monday, January 9, 2017 | Men's Basketball
The Southeastern Conference named KeVaughn Allen the SEC Player of the Week, a well-deserved honor for one of the fastest-emerging leaders for the Gators this season.
Allen scored 23 points for the Gators against the Tennessee Volunteers and 14 against the Ole Miss Rebels, helping the Gators stay undefeated in conference play. He had efficient numbers across the board this week, averaging 18.5 points, 5 rebounds and three steals.
Florida is one of only three SEC schools to sweep the week, along with Kentucky and South Carolina.
In the second half against Tennessee, Allen shot 1.000 from the field, making all five field goal attempts and all four three-point attempts, and completed two-of-three free throws, scoring 16 of his 23 points for the game just after halftime. He is shooting 51 percent from the floor and 53 percent from the arc over his last seven games.
Allen was the only athlete in the conference to record four three-point field goals in back-to-back games this week. His 35 completed shots from behind the arc this season is currently ranked fourth in the conference.
This is Allen's first career Player of the Week recognition and second honor from the SEC after earning Freshman of the Week once last season (Feb. 1, 2016).
