Sunday, October 8, 2017 | Men's Tennis
TULSA, Okla. – In what had the feel of a championship match in the semifinals, familiar foes met on the court having to put aside the fact that they were teammates for a chance to advance to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Championship Doubles final.
The pair of Alfredo Perez and Johannes Ingildsen met teammates McCLain Kessler and Duarte Vale in the semifinals of the doubles main draw. Perez and Ingildsen, ranked fourth in the nation and seeded fourth in the tournament, seemed liked the odds on favorite but the newly formed team of Kessler and Vale were not going to go down without a fight.
In the first set Perez and Ingildsen looked strong but Kessler and Vale matched Perez and Ingildsen to a 6-6 tie before Perez and Ingildsen closed out the set 7-6. The second set was no different with neither team giving an inch. Vale and Kessler lead early in the match but Perez and Ingildsen's experience helped the two prevail in the tiebreak to take the second set 7-6 and advance to the finals.
Prior to his doubles match, Ingildsen had to take care of business in the consolation singles semifinals. Ingildsen took on Kyle Seelig of Ohio State, who entered the consolation draw after falling to Perez in the first-round of the main draw 6-7(4), 7-6(2), 6-3. In his singles match Ingildsen was able to take care of business in set one, winning 6-3 but fell in the second 3-6. Just as he has done all tournament, Ingildsen didn't let a set lose rattle him and came back to take the final set 6-0.
