DAPHNE, Ala. – University of Florida head coach Mike Holloway was named this year's recipient of the prestigious Amos Alonzo Stagg Coaching Award, the United States Sports Academy announced Thursday night.
This past June, Holloway led Florida's men to their seventh national title since 2010, a figure that leads all Division I programs during that span. It also marked Gators' 19th top-2 finish in 30 men's NCAA Championship meets since Holloway became head coach in 2003. On the women's side, the team finished fifth at NCAA Outdoor Championships, missing the podium by a single point. The highlight of the meet, however, was fifth-year senior Kyra Jefferson breaking a 28-year-old collegiate record in the 200 meters.
Past winners of the Amos Alonzo Stagg Coaching Award include:
The award is presented to an individual who has experienced outstanding achievement as a coach, and exhibits a high standard of propriety, imagination, and innovation as a character-builder in the tradition of great teacher-coaches.
