The UF baseball team is in Washington, D.C., on Friday after winning the program's first national title.
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The University of Florida baseball team is reaping the rewards for winning its first national championship.
The Gators toured the nation's capital Friday as part of Collegiate National Champions Day. Florida departed Gainesville shortly after 7 a.m. for a whirlwind day that started with a trip to the White House soon after the team landed at Dulles International Airport.
Following their stop at the White House, Florida head coach Kevin O'Sullivan and his team were scheduled to have lunch at the Rayburn House Office Building, hosted by Florida congressman Ted Yoho.
The Gators then were scheduled to take a tour of some of Washington's most famous landmarks, including the Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial and Korean War Veterans Memorial. Once the tour is over, the Gators will head back to Gainesville.
Florida defeated LSU in the College World Series championship series in late June to capture the program's first national title. Pitcher Alex Faedo, the CWS Most Outstanding Player, joined the team on Friday as he prepares for the start of his first professional season. Faedo was Detroit's first-round pick in last summer's MLB amateur draft. Shortstop Dalton Guthrie, now a member of the Phillies' organization, joined Faedo in the photo above.
Each team in attendance met President Donald Trump and posed for group photos during their visit to the White House.
The Gators received their national championship rings earlier in the week, as you can see below:
