Carli Snyder is the second Gator to earn the national award this year
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Senior outside hitter Carli Snyder added another honor to her resume following a dynamic offensive outing in last Wednesday's sweep of No. 6 Kentucky: espnW national player of the week.
The announcement came via a story penned by Vicki Friedman for espnW.com. Snyder discussed some of the books in her travel backpack, her versatility on the court, as well as how she hopes to apply her major (international studies – Africa) after college.
"I'm hoping to empower women in some way and work with refugees as far as education," Snyder told espnW. "I have this passion for empowering women, probably from [Florida head coach] Mary Wise, because I think she's one of the most empowered women I've ever met, and so is my own mother."
Snyder was also named SEC Player of the Week Monday afternoon.
The Macomb, Mich., native notched 15 kills and zero errors on 29 attempts, registering a .517 hitting percentage in the No. 4 Gators' sweep of No. 6 Kentucky. It was just the fifth sweep of a top-10 team on the road this year. Snyder followed that standout performance with a double-double in a sweep of Tennessee. She tallied 12 kills and 13 digs, in addition to tying her career high for blocks (four).
The Gators (20-1, 12-1 SEC), who lead the SEC by a half-game, return home for matches with Arkansas and Missouri. Florida faces Arkansas Friday at 7 p.m. ET, with SEC Network + providing live streaming. The Gators face Missouri Sunday at 1 p.m., which will also serve as senior day, live on SEC Network. Both matches will be broadcast via the radio airwaves of ESPN Gainesville 98.1 FM / 850 AM.
