Mullen's Message, Noah, UF-FSU history, more tidbits

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In what has been the zaniest week we've seen in a while in college football, the game takes center stage today (we think) on Championship Saturday.

We've got Auburn-Georgia in the SEC title game, Clemson-Miami for the ACC title, Ohio State-Wisconsin in the Big Ten, Oklahoma-TCU in the Big 12 and UCF-Memphis in the AAC.

If you need to mow the yard or wash the car, get an early start.

Of course, after back-to-back SEC East titles, the Gators dropped to 4-7 in 2017 and hired Dan Mullen to rebuild the program into a national title contender. Mullen has been on the road recruiting since his Monday press conference at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

Mullen is in Charlotte, N.C., today and will appear on ESPN's College GameDay at 9:15 a.m. along with Alabama head coach Nick Saban and North Carolina State coach Dave Doeren.

Gators interim head coach Randy Shannon and Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher led their teams in the 62nd all-time meeting between the rival programs a week ago today.

Seven days later, Shannon is out of work and Fisher is headed to Texas A&M. Yes, the #CoachingCarousel is spinning on warp speed this offseason.

When the Gators and Seminoles meet next season at Doak Campbell Stadium, both will have new head coaches. How rare is that? Well, the last time it happened was 57 years ago when Florida's Ray Graves and FSU's Bill Peterson met.

Historians of the rivalry may recall the game made national news for other reasons beyond the Gators' 3-0 win. Florida fullback Jon MacBeth was hailed a hero for working with authorities after he was approached to "fix" the game.
