Freshman James Robinson, a talented receiver from Lakeland and one of the Gators' biggest signees in the 2017 class, will not play for the Gators due to a heart condition.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Receiver James Robinson, one of the state's top recruits a year ago, will not play for the Gators.
The school announced Friday afternoon that the freshman from Lakeland will not be medically cleared to play at UF. Former head coach Jim McElwain announced Sept. 6 that a routine echocardiogram revealed an unspecified heart condition that kept Robinson sidelined indefinitely.
Robinson did not appear in a game.
Robinson is the third Gators receiver no longer in the mix for next season.
Junior Antonio Callaway, who did not play in 2017 due to suspension, has reportedly signed with an agent and plans to enter the NFL draft, and tight end/receiver Kalif Jackson recently announced he planned to pursue other options as a graduate transfer for his final season of eligibility.
Junior Tyrie Cleveland is set to be Florida's leading returning receiver next season. Cleveland caught 22 passes for a team-leading 410 yards in 2017 despite missing two games and being limited in at least two others due to various injuries.
