Former Gators cornerback Quincy Wilson traveled to Dallas this week to compete in the All-Star Football Challenge.
DALLAS – The 2017 State Farm All-Star Football Challenge was held at AT&T Stadium in Dallas this week where Quincy Wilson and the Southeastern Conference won the overall team competition after 24 of college football's brightest stars were divided into six teams based on their college conference. The 19th annual event airs tonight at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
Wilson, a certain first-round pick in April's NFL Draft, decided to skip his senior season and enter the NFL Draft in an article written by Sports Illustrated's Pete Thamel. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla. native was one of just two players to start in every game for the Gators in 2016, racking up 33 tackles, 3,5 tackles for a loss, a sack, three interceptions, six pass breakups and a quarterback hurry. For his efforts last season, Wilson was named Second Team All-SEC by the AP, Athlon Sports, Gridiron Now and the league's coaches.
For his career, Wilson appeared in 39 games totaling 84 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble, six interceptions and 17 pass break-ups.
At the All-Star Football Challenge, each team consisted of four players from the same conference that competed for conference supremacy in a series of skills competitions. The conferences represented were the ACC, the Big Ten, the Big 12, the Pac-12, the SEC, and four of the best players outside of the Power Five called the "Wildcard" team. Luke Kuechly (ACC), Melvin Gordon (Big Ten), Aqib Talib (Big 12), DeSean Jackson (Pac-12), Landon Collins (SEC) and Josh Norman (Wildcard) also served as coaches and mentors throughout the competition for the conference that they represented as prolific stars during college.
Each player individually participated in a timed event, and then finished with a full team event. Events were all timed and had individual winners that compiled into a cumulative score to determine the winning team. For example, the Wilson competed in the PlayStation Hands Competition where he placed fifth with a time of 18.2 seconds.
However, he did have the fastest time among defensive backs in that event.
The event will have encore airings on ESPN at 1 p.m. ET on April 8 and on ESPN2 at noon ET on April 23.
