Chiozza’s Triple-Double Lands Him SEC Player of the Week Recognition

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Southeastern Conference named Chris Chiozza its Player of the Week after his performance in two league wins.
Against Missouri, Chiozza became the third Gator in program history to record a triple-double, notching 12 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. It was Florida's first triple-double since Jan. 28, 2009 (Nick Calathes vs. Georgia). Chiozza also became the first player in the nation to post a triple-double off the bench since Massachusett's guard Chris Lowe did it on March 5, 2008 against LaSalle.
"I was happy, but I didn't think about it very long," Chiozza, the junior from Memphis, Tenn., said after practice Monday. "Without my teammates boxing out and making shots I wouldn't have gotten the stats I got in the game. It's really how the team has been playing that's made me play better."
Heading into last week, Chiozza's career-high for rebounds was seven, but he was able to notch 12 and nine in the two games, respectively. His 10 assists (vs. just two turnovers) against Missouri were more than the Tigers' team total of seven for the game.
In Florida's win over No. 8 Kentucky, Chiozza posted nine rebounds, nine assists and two steals. The 22-point win was the Gators' largest victory margin against Kentucky in program history, and snapped a five-game skid against the Wildcats – a team Florida had not beaten since 2014.
The Player of the Week honor was Chiozza's first SEC recognition of his career. He was the second UF player to be so honored this season, joining sophomore guard KeVaughn Allen back on Jan. 9.
