Wednesday, March 1, 2017 | Track and Field
Seven of Florida's 11 men's entrants are ranked third or higher in their events--no other program has more than three such entrants
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida track and field boasts 17 entries for this year's NCAA Indoor Championships, including 11 on the men's side, the second-highest total in the country.
Although Florida's men trail Arkansas' nation-leading total of 12 entries, seven Gators enter the national meet ranked third or higher, including 60 hurdles national leader, Grant Holloway. Oregon touts only three such entrants, while no other program has more than two.
Florida's men will enter the meet ranked No. 1, marking the sixth time since 2010 they will do so. The Gators entered NCAA Indoors as the top-ranked team for all three of their national titles (2010-12), as well as their runner-up finish in 2015 and third-place finish in 2014.
UF's men have finished no lower than third at 15 of the last 16 NCAA Championships, and had the third-longest streak of top-three finishes in NCAA Indoor Championships history (seven) come to an end last year.
On the women's side, the Gators feature six entries. The group is headlined by sophomore triple jumper Yanis David, who ranks second nationally. Sophomore quarter-miler Sharrika Barnett is the only other Gator ranked in the top five entering the national meet.
