JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – For the third-straight season, the University of Florida women's golf team has captured the Briar's Creek Invitational title. The Gators posted a tournament-record 15-under (849), finishing with an 18-stroke lead over the field.
To secure the victory, Florida posted a two-under (286) in the final round.
The 849 carded by the Gators in the Briar's Creek Invitational tied the program record for low team tournament total, which was previously set at the 2008 SunTrust Gator Invitational.
Maria Torres had another phenomenal tournament for the Gators, winning the individual title.
The senior used a seven-under (209) to take home her third title of the season, and her second in a row after winning the SunTrust Gator Invitational on March 12.
Meanwhile, seniors Kelly Grassel and Karolina Vlckova each finished in the top-10, as they finished tied for third (three-under, 213) and tied for eighth (one-under, 215), respectively.
This is Florida's third team tournament title of the season.
Head Coach Emily Glaser:
On the Gator's win…
"Our goal today was to win the day and we came close to that. We just gave a few shots away at the end to keep us having the day's low round. Overall, a statement win by the team and a solid team effort by each individual this week."
On Florida's play today…
"Today, we started a little slow but I was really impressed with how we hung tough, stayed patient and waited for our opportunities. Patience is going to be a really important factor for us these next few months, so I'm happy we got a chance to work on that. Maria played really solid today. Two bogey free rounds in this tournament is a real accomplishment."
