Gators Open with a Bang at Hurricane Collegiate Invitational

Florida posted 15 national top 10s Saturday afternoon in Coral Gables.
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Though the season is in its infancy, Florida posted 15 times and marks that rank inside the top 10 nationally, along with four times and marks that cracked the program's all-time outdoor top 10, Saturday (March 25) at the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational.

The Gators opened the day with NCAA top 10s in the men's and women's 4x100 relays. The women's quartet of Brandee' Johnson, Shayla Sanders, Destinee Gause, and Kyra Jefferson logged a 44.07, the second-fastest time of the year. The men followed that performance with a 39.56 from Michael Timpson Jr., Grant Holloway, Eric Futch, and Ryan Clark.

With the exception of Futch and Holloway, the rest of Florida's relay runners all returned later in the day and posted an individual top-10 national time.

Gause (200 meters), Jefferson (400 meters), and Timpson Jr. (200 meters) posted the third-fastest times in their events. Sanders ran the sixth-fastest 100 meters of the year (11.41), while Clark ran the eighth-fastest 100 (10.33) on the men's side. Johnson finished the 100-meter hurdles in 13.47 seconds, the No. 9 time in the nation and No. 10-ranked time on the program's all-time top 10. In the field, Asa Garcia (triple jump) and Darrielle McQueen (long jump) both posted Division I-leading marks. McQueen's 6.49-meter leap ranks No. 3 on UF's all-time top 10, and Garcia's 13.06-meter hop, skip, and jump ranks No. 6 on the program's list.

Other Gators to post national top 10s were KeAndre Bates (long jump), Clayton Brown (high jump), Lloydricia Cameron (discus throw), Yanis David (long jump), and Ebony Luster (triple jump).
