Three Players Earn SEC Honors; White Coach of the Year
Tuesday, March 7, 2017 | Men's Basketball
Head coach Mike White has been named SEC Coach of the Year in his second season leading the Gators, as Florida posted 24 wins during the regular season, tied for the third-most in the program's history. In his six seasons as a head coach, White has been named his conference's Coach of the Year three times after earning WAC Coach of the Year (2013) and Conference USA Coach of the Year (2015) honors while at Louisiana Tech.
KeVaughn Allen received first-team All-SEC accolades after leading the Gators in scoring (13.9) during the regular season. Allen is the first Gator sophomore so honored since Kenny Boynton in 2012. It is Allen's second career SEC honor after being named to the 2016 All-Freshman Team.
Canyon Barry earned SEC Sixth Man of the Year recognition, the third Gator to receive the honor along with Dorian Finney-Smith (2014) and Chris Richard (2007). Barry has scored 12.5 points per game and is the team's top free throw shooter with 101 made free throws and an .878 percentage.
Kasey Hill also earned honors both on the All-SEC second team and the SEC All-Defensive Team. Hill has scored 9.6 points per game and ranks second in the SEC in assists (4.6) and fourth in steals (1.7). Hill is the third Gator to earn a spot on the All-Defensive Team, along with two-time honorees Patric Young and Scottie Wilbekin (2013 and 2014).
The Gators are one of four teams to have multiple players receive All-SEC honors and are the only team to have multiple individual award winners.
