Florida Tops Texas A&M in Rescheduled Match
Monday, March 6, 2017 | Women's Tennis
The match was originally scheduled for Sunday but rain forced a delay.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – More than 24 hours after Florida and Texas A&M has been scheduled to begin play in a challenging Southeastern Conference match-up, the Gators finally posted a 4-0 victory on Monday at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
In what was set to be an exciting Sunday afternoon between top-ranked Florida and No. 20 Texas A&M, turned into a weather watch, as Mother Nature won the day and forced the match's postponement until late this morning, when the match even endured two short weather delays.
In the end, the Gators jumped out to win the doubles point by earning victories on courts one and two, before Anna Danilina, Josie Kuhlman and Brooke Austin polished off straight-set singles wins to post the team shutout.
Postmatch with UF Head Coach Roland Thornqvist
"We were able to get the match in and we were able to get the win. There were 20-mile-per-hour swirling winds today so it was not pretty.
"As a coach, I feel really good in that I have complete trust in this squad. Even warming up yesterday and having to abort the match and coming back later and not knowing if we were going to play... Today, we had two rain stops and with the wind… I trust these guys. They compete. They prepare. The never panic and no matter what happens, they find a way to be all-business.
"No one played great tennis today. I was just about running and getting balls in play and making good decisions in this swirling wind and for the most part, I thought we did that on every court.
"This Texas A&M team is really talented and I was just happy to win another good one on the road."
