GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Two members of the University of Florida women's lacrosse team were recognized by the BIG EAST office on Tuesday for their efforts in the Gators' 2-0 week in conference play.
Senior Caroline Fitzgerald was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for the first time this season after tying Florida's single-game record with five caused turnovers at Marquette on April 5. Fitzgerald and the Gator defense limited Marquette to seven goals, its fewest in conference play this season. Against Cincinnati on April 8, Fitzgerald added two draw controls in Florida's first-half shutout of the Bearcats.
Sophomore Lindsey Ronbeck was tabbed the BIG EAST Attacker of the Week for the second time this season. Ronbeck had a career-high tying seven points (five goals, two assists), one ground ball, one draw control and one caused turnover in Florida's win at Marquette on April 5. The game marked her third of the season with at least five goals and seven points. Against Cincinnati, Ronbeck had a three-for-three shooting performance in the first half, for her seventh hat trick of the season. She finished the week with 10 points off eight goals and two dishes, was two-for-two on free position attempts and added a pair of ground balls.
