Gators, Horsfield Clinch Mason Rudolph Victories

The Gators picked up their fifth team victory, the most since the 2010-11 season.
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The Florida's men's golf team clinched its fifth team title of the year Sunday at the Mason Rudolph Championship after shooting 12-under on its last seven holes to card a  271 (-13) for the day. This is the first time the 2010-11 season and the eighth time in program history UF has won five events in a season.

UF's overall score of 822 (-30) is its best score of the year, both in terms of stroke and to-par.  The score of 30 under-par is tied for third-best in program history and the stroke total of 822 is the fourth-best in program history.

In addition, Florida's final round stroke total of 271 is its best this year and tied for 13th in program history. Meanwhile, the final round score of -13 was also the Gators best this season and ranks tied for 15th in program lore.

Sophomore Sam Horsfield defended his title and picked up his first win of the year after carding a bogey-free 66 (-5) in the final round. His overall score of 202 (-11) was the best on the team this year and a four-stroke improvement from his victory at last year's tournament.

Horsfield also put himself in the Gator record books as his stroke total of 202 is tied for ninth in program history while his score to-par of 11-under is tied for seventh.

The sophomore now leads the team in top-five finishes (4), top-10 finishes (5) and top-25 finishes (7).

All three of Horsfield's rounds were under 70 (69, 67, 66).

Three of the Gators (Horsfield, Gordon Neale, Alejandro Tosti) shot a 66 (-5) in the final round to finish inside the top-10. Both Horsfield and Tosti closed out the back nine by shooting 32 (-4). On the final hole, Neale picked up his third eagle of the season.

???????Tosti also recorded a bogey-free outing.

The Gators are back in action at the SEC Championship tournament in St. Simons Island, Georgia, on April 21.

Head Coach J.C. Deacon
On his team's victory:
"It was some of the most clutch, gutsy golf that I've ever seen from a team. They played their best golf when they needed it the most and that's what we all strive to do when we're practicing and preparing for tournaments and they accomplished it today. Alejandro Tosti shot an unbelievable 66 and Gordon Neale finished birdie-eagle to do the same. It was another really clutch team win. I'm very, very proud of the guys. It was special."

On Sam Horsfield's individual victory:
"Sam is rounding back into form. This is the type of player he is and we need him to be like that. We were struggling a little bit early and he put the team on his shoulders."

On what the win means for the team heading into the postseason:
"We're just getting going. This is when this team wanted to shine, in the postseason, and this is what we're built for. This is a great step leading into the postseason, but our work is just beginning, so we've got a long way to go and hopefully a lot more numbers to add to the [five wins this season]."
