Thursday, April 20, 2017 | Men's Basketball
Egor Koulechov has filed the necessary paperwork to officially join the Florida Gators men's basketball team as a graduate transfer.
Koulechov (COO-luh-chov), from Volgograd, Russia, comes to UF after graduating from Rice University. The 6-foot-5 wing man scored 1172 points in 67 games (17.5 average) over the course of two seasons at Rice. He shot .474 from 3-point range and averaged 18.2 points and 8.9 rebounds per game during the 2016-17 season, earning first-team All-Conference USA honors.
"We're thrilled to have Egor come to Florida and join the Gator family," head coach Mike White said. "Along with his obvious offensive firepower, Egor will also bring a level of toughness and experience to our team."
Koulechov has 21 career 20-point games, including three 30-point outings. He played his freshman season at Arizona State, where he averaged 3.7 points in 27 games, before transferring to Rice.
The Gators now have five newcomers for the 2017-18 squad, in addition to transfer Jalen Hudson who sat out last season. Florida has three ESPN100 signees in Isaiah Stokes (#59), DeAundrae Ballard (#62) and Chase Johnson (#95), along with spring signee Michael Okauru, making up ESPN's ninth-ranked class in the nation.
